September is National Library Card Sign-Up month and Superhero September!  To celebrate, Samuels Public Library is having a month long celebration.  You can become one of our Samuels' Superheroes with our limited edition library cards. During September, children can enter a weekly raffle every time they check out books or movies. Children getting their first library card may get a super reader cape and a free prize. The month culminates on September 26th with a Mini Comic Con and raffle extravaganza.  Celebrate back to school with a library card and become a Library Superhero.  Remember, books are just the beginning and a library card is the key to it all.

Water Quality Study Introductory Meeting (01/06/2014)
WHO: Landowners and folks who are interested in local stream health WHAT: Public Meeting to introduce a Water Quality Study on: Crooked Run and its tributaries West Run and Stephens Run, Happy Creek, Manassas Run, Willow Brook, Borden Marsh Run, and Long Branch WHEN & WHERE: Thursday January 9, 2014 at 6.30pm at the North Warren Fire Hall at 266 Rockland Court, Front Royal, VA 22630.  Landowners and local residents who are interested in the condition of their local streams and rivers are welcome to attend a public meeting to introduce a water quality study on Crooked Run, West Run, Stephens Run, Happy Creek, Manassas Run, Willow Brook, Borden Marsh Run, and Long Branch.  According to water quality monitoring conducted by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), these streams, which are all tributaries of the Shenandoah River, have too much bacteria.  In addition, Happy Creek does not have a healthy aquatic life population and Crooked Run has very low levels of dissolved oxygen.  The DEQ will be starting a water quality study to understand these streams and the land that drains to them, investigate the sources of bacteria, and recommend reductions that will bring the streams back to a healthy and safe condition.  The local community is invited and encouraged to become involved by participating in meetings, reviewing data, and giving feedback.  This meeting is open to the general public.  All are welcome to attend and learn more about local streams and what local residents can do to help. Please contact Tara Sieber, DEQ Water Quality Coordinator for the Valley Region, at or 540.574.7870 for more information.
